you feel as though you've just woken from a too-deep slumber when the train whistle screeches in your ear.

you have no memory of boarding or of purchasing a ticket. you look out of the window to see a city with buildings suspiciously reminiscent of victorian london, and a sign which reads -- almost illegibly -- WHITECHAPEL ROAD RAIL STATION.

you exit the train to find your luggage waiting for you on the platform. so you pick it up, and make your way into town. it's a cute little place, perhaps a little kitschy. red brick buildings line the main street -- called, as promised, whitechapel road -- and house a number of shops and offices. located at the end of the street is a large boarding house, MS. WHITE'S HOME FOR THOSE WHO WANDER, that seems to be in decent enough condition. (though if you travel down an adjoining street, you'll find much nicer and more expensive private lodgings.)

you can't remember how you got here and you try your hardest to leave. when you walk back to the train station, however, all you find is an empty expanse of overgrown land. you try your way out through one of the many paths through the surrounding woods, but it doesn't matter how far you walk; the only thing you'll ever see through the trees is whitechapel road. there are streets that seem to lead out of town, but if you follow them you find they lead in a circle back to the other side of the town. there's a small dock on the edge of a lake, land visible just across it, but there's not a single boat in town, and the lake water is dark, murky and unmoving. a sign next to it reads SWIMMING ILL-ADVISED, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

unable to leave, you make a home for yourself. you find employment, make friends, and everything goes very well. for a time.

but after two months of pleasant living, the murders begin. members of the community start turning up dead, mutilated in hideous ways. the local police force can't make heads or tails of the deaths. are they connected? is there one killer or are there many? are a certain group of people being targeted? every time they seem to have an answer, new questions pop up.

and what's worse, the people you've started to trust begin acting suspiciously. people turn up at fresh crime scenes with no memory of how or why they're there. arrests are made but no trials take place.

this is the world you live in now. fear is everywhere. can you be sure that you have nothing to do with it?

WHITECHAPEL ROAD is a panfandom rpg, set in a small town, cut off from the hustle and bustle of the real world. It is slice of life with a hint of horror, a two ooc days = one ic day, and non-network based. Welcome to town.
